When even great clinicians feel stuck

You’ve done everything right, yet some patients’ pain keeps returning, leaving you second-guessing your skill and your confidence is feeling a bit bruised.

You want better outcomes, but working alone means there’s no one to talk shop with and the isolation is starting to weigh on you.

When patients drop off or referrals stall, it’s not failure, most clinicians were never taught to manage the emotional and behavioural side of pain.

Your hands on skills are amazing, but you are not sure how to communicate in an emotionally informed way.

And you’re not alone in feeling that gap.

What you’ll learn in this Rountable

Understand why complex pain challenges even the best clinicians and why traditional training often skips the emotional and behavioural nuances that make chronic pain care so different.

Use language that works in emotionally charged sessions, clear phrasing to calm tension, maintain trust, and guide frustrated patients.

Stay composed and effective when sessions become emotional tools to manage your own reactions, stay objective, and support your patient without absorbing distress.

A moment every clinician knows

A patient who’s made real progress comes in and says, “The pain’s back.”
Your heart sinks – you doubt your skill because you know this shouldn’t be happening

You say, “Let’s book again next week” but part of you wonders if they’ll come back.

You’re not alone. This happens in clinics every day, not because clinicians are incompetent, but because most have never worked within a system that supports both them and their patients through the ups and downs of pain management.

This roundtable is where we discuss how to change that.

You’ll leave knowing exactly how to respond next time, with language that keeps your patient engaged and your reputation intact.

Use this quick checklist to challenge your own thinking.

It guides you through targeted subjective and objective questioning to refine your clinical reasoning, uncover what’s missing, and direct your next step with more certainty.

Perfect for quick self-reflection after a session or as a peer review discussion tool to strengthen shared decision-making.

Benefit: Less second-guessing, faster clarity, and stronger case direction.
