Learn the communication techniques that help you navigate difficult chronic pain cases

Spoiler Alert!
When your treatment plan goes off track, it’s not just what you do, it’s what you say.

The demand for chronic pain care is rising.

Most clinicians aren’t evolving.

Here’s how to stand out instead of blending in.

If you want to stay relevant and grow your impact, start here.

Practitioners who’ve watched this are already ahead of the curve.

Watch instantly, high-impact, practical, and ready when you are. If you treat chronic pain without these tools, you’re missing opportunities to make a real difference – for your patients and your practice.

What happens when your go-to treatment strategy isn’t enough?

As a practitioner, you’ve probably encountered this scenario:

🔹 A patient keeps coming back, still in pain, even after you’ve used every treatment technique in your toolbox.
🔹 Another questions your treatment approach because their pain isn’t improving.
🔹 You’ve explained everything – the exercises, the neuroscience, the hands-on therapy – and yet, something isn’t clicking.

It’s not just what you do, it’s what you say that changes the outcome.

That’s why Dr. Joshua W. Pate, PhD and Faraz Majlessi are teaming up to deliver a no-fluff, real-world discussion on patient communication – where research meets clinical practice.

What you’ll learn in the Fireside Chat

The Hands-On Myth

Why hands-on therapy isn’t always the solution—and how to shift patient expectations.

The Initial Consultation

The exact words that help build trust from the first appointment.

Strength-Based Communication

A Real Case Study

A real patient, a tough conversation, and a moment every practitioner faces: What do you do when a patient insists on hands-on treatment, but the pain keeps coming back? Faraz & Josh will break this down – clinically and through research.

A head shot of Josh Pate

Dr. Joshua W. Pate, PhD

Special Guest: Dr. Joshua W. Pate, PhD, is a senior lecturer in physiotherapy and a senior physiotherapist. His research and teaching focus is on the way that we understand pain; starting with kids but applicable to all. Josh is fascinated by how re-conceptualising pain according to contemporary science may change the way pain is treated.

As part of his PhD, he developed the Concept of Pain Inventory (COPI) and he is now working on developing and testing educational resources, particularly in schools.

Josh recently gave a TEDx Talk, and he has worked with TED-Ed to make two online animations with millions of views. He has also co-founded a pain science interview platform (‘One Thing’), and he is now a children’s book author of five books about pain (Zoe and Zak’s Pain Hacks Book Series 1-5).

Josh dreams of generational conceptual and behaviour change regarding the complexity of pain.
